Detailed Trail Description:

This is a Level 2, basic run but with some rocky sections.

  • A stock Jeep can do this, but all terrain tires are required.

  • Jeep lift is not needed to drive this trail.

  • All Jeeps MUST have a spare tire. If you do not have one you will not be able to go on the run.

  • GMRS radio is required for this run.

This run is open to all skill levels. The trail is not difficult and can be done with a stock Jeep. We will not be doing the optional washes. There is a steep incline and decline that has a bypass. GMRS radios and a working spare tire that fits your Jeep are required. All-terrain or mud-terrain tires are required. There is a slight chance of desert pin-striping. This run will be limited to 12 Jeeps to keep the group size manageable.

We will leave the gas station at 08:00am and that means you must have your Jeep gassed up and your purchases made at the store in time for the 07:45am trail briefing.

We will stop at the CCC dam where we will take a short hike to see some petroglyphs. It takes some maneuvering (hiking not Jeeping) to get around the dam, but the petroglyphs behind the dam are worth it.

The landscape is multicolored sandstone formations known as the Buffington Pockets. We will cross tracks from the Old Spanish trail created by the Spanish around 1776. This area has attracted people throughout time due to the springs and water holes. There are plenty of extraordinary views and vistas to be seen along the byway. Wildlife in the area includes wild horses and bighorn sheep.

We will end the trail at Echo Bay inside Lake Mead National Park. We will stop at the bridge to exit on North Shore Rd (Hwy 167) if you do not want to continue to Echo Bay. To continue to Echo Bay you will need to have a Lake Mead Pass or National Park Annual Pass. So bring your camera, snacks, plenty of water and lets have a great day in our desert.
